Angel City Classic: Morehouse vs. Prairie View
Even though Prairie View won the game, I had the greatest time at the Angel City Classic on Saturday. I've said it before and I'll continue saying it: There's NOTHING like attending and being the product of an HBCU! It was great seeing my Morehouse brothers and Spelman sisters looking good, doing well and out with their families. It was great to get a taste of "home." There are rarely events like this in Los Angeles where African Americans of all ages come together and have a good time.

The First 2008 Presidential Debate
Barack came out swinging! He stood his ground, argued his points, maintained his cool...I'm proud of him. This was a fairly decent debate. I still can't get over how condescending McCain was towards Obama at the tailend of the debate, but...whatever.David Alan Grier's "Chocolate News"

...to the polls on election day! PLEASE advise everyone you know! "Electioneering" is against the law and will be grounds to have polling officials turn you away. This is considered campaigning and no one is allowed to campaign within X amount of feet of the polls. Conservatives are banking on us being overly excited and not being aware of this long standing law that you can bet will be enforced this year!
Tim Gunn
Timothy M. Gunn is an American fashion consultant and is best known for being an advisor/host on Project Runway. He is currently Chair of the Department of Fashion Design at Parsons The New School for Design. Gunn has been a vital part of the Parsons community for more than 23 years. In August 2000, he was appointed chair of the fashion design program with the charge of retooling and invigorating the curriculum for the 21st century. Under Gunn's direction, the department has strengthened its position as the indisputable leader in fashion design education in America and as one of only a handful of leading programs in the world. The school will celebrate the centennial of the program, which was the first of its kind in the nation, this year. Gunn credits the seminal changes in the department's curriculum with the meteoric success of the dynamic design duo of Jack McCollough ’02 and Lazaro Hernandez ‘02 of Proenza Schouler, whose senior year thesis collection was bought off the school's runway by Barneys New York. This academic and fashion industry “first” was a mere bellwether for the graduating classes to follow and set in motion an industry clamoring for young, innovative design talent, including up-and-coming designers such as Ashleigh Verrier ’04.
Prior to his appointment as chair of the fashion design program, Gunn spent most of his career at Parsons as Associate Dean of the school. In that capacity, he worked closely with the academic departments and helped develop programs and relationships abroad, including the international spectrum of Parsons affiliates in Paris, Korea, Japan and the Dominican Republic.
Gunn has lectured widely on fashion and lifestyle design and Parsons' influential role in putting America on the global design map. His interviews have appeared in publications as diverse as Time and Newsweek, Crain's New York Business, Martha Stewart Living, Elle Magazine and Women's Wear Daily, and his television interviews have appeared on CBS, NBC, and the Metro Channel.

I can't even explain just how excited I am to see this movie! January 2009 can't come quick enough. I was honestly a little skeptical about this film when I first heard about it months back. Then, when I saw the test photography that was leaked on the internet, I was done. It honestly looked like made for TV quality, with cheesy costuming. Now, to see what it's actually become gives me chills everytime I watch the trailer.I'm happy that people haven't forgotten his legacy and the impact he's had on hip-hop music. He's so significant and even more relevant.
I just hope the movie is gritty, genuine account of his life. Meaning, I hope it's rated R.

What the fuck was Thom Browne thinking?
Designer Thom Browne first caught my attention back in 2006 when he became a guest designer for Brooks Brothers. He created one of the haute-est 50-piece men and women's collections I've ever seen from Brooks. The collection appeared exclusively in 30 stores worldwide in 2007. If you'd asked me a year ago, I would have told you that Thom had the potential of going down in the books as one of the greats. I thought he was brilliant and his collections were innovative. Today, I'm singing a TOTALLY different tune! I just have to say this boldly: Thom Browne's Spring 2009 collection is GARBAGE! HOT GARBAGE, in fact! What the fuck is he thinking about?
My least favorite designers are those who try to make men's fashion too feminite and for some strange reason, Browne has a fascination with what some fashion editors have called "male powerlessness." Softening some aspects of men's clothing is one thing, but a tutu Thom?! Come on! The suit/gown that closed the show almost made me throw up! Ugh!
Note to Thom: Do better homie.
