"3 X 5" John Mayer

In my attempts to "catch you up on places I've been," here's a snapshot of some of my favorites photos from the last couple of weeks...

P.S. If you're a true John Mayer fan then you definitely caught the reference above. Haha!

Once Upon A Time at Cinespace...

A couple of weeks ago when Lovey was home for Spring Break, I got word that Kid Cudi was performing at Cinespace. Imagine my excitement. The first time I saw him perform was a year ago and I became an instant fan. His delivery was solid. His message was original. His persona was unique. All things considered, I felt I HAD to attend this performance. I invited all my closest friends to enjoy with me.

What a difference a year makes...

In the past year since I saw the then unknown Cudi perform, he's gained a lot of publicity. I think dude is really feeling himself now. Let me give you a snapshot of "the concert."

First, let me explain how I was racing through the streets of Westwood, Beverly Hills and Hollywood to get to the show. I had just watched my sandz at UCLA probate and so I was late. I arrive around 11pm hoping I could catch what I thought would have been the tail-end of the show. I park, stand in line and go upstairs, only to find my friends and fellow Cinespacers waiting around like it was still 8pm.

Me: Where's Kid Cudi?
My friends: He's not here yet.
Me: What the fuck?
Considering the time and the venue it was very odd that he wasn't there yet... Dude finally decided to show his face around 1:30am! Yeah, 1:30am! We were pissed! To make matters worse, when he arrived and got on stage he didn't start performing for 30 minutes. He just sat on stage, drank, smoked and talked to Plain Pat (as you can see in the photo above). Rude! Just rude! After that I wasn't even interested anymore. I felt as if I'd been disrespected. How dare he show up hours late and sit on his ass when I paid my hard earned money to see him perform.

This changed my whole perception of him. I'm just not at all impressed anymore. The only way he could possibly redeem himself is by making his next album (which I will gladly burn and distribute to all of you out of spite) is the hottest shit I've ever heard. I doubt it though...

N.O.R.E. randomly jumped on stage at one point during the show. He did one song and was about to leave until Sean and I started yelling, "Do 'Super Thug'," in which we got full audience participation with. He did it. We loved and appreciated it.

Cinespace regular, Will.i.am, also performed a series of freestyles. I've learned time and time again not to underestimate this dude. I forgot for a long time that he started off his career as a legitimate MC. I guess the years of the Black Eyed Peas with Fergy's fuckass fucked up my views. He ripped it! Even better than Cudi I might add. At one point he actually rocked it so hard that he kind of took over the show. Cudi was visibly pissed, but he still gave him a loving hug when he finished. After his performance, he pubbed X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Sweet!

What a night...

Spring Inspiration

Amidst the temperamental SoCal weather and my crazy life I've been thinking a lot about what direction my closet will be going in this Spring. I'm really trying to switch it up, as far as colors go, and don some unconventional shades of the spectrum. While catching up on my dailies this morning I came across 2 looks that I LOVE from 3.1 Pilip Lim and Our Legacy, seen below.

I haven't been thrifting since December. Between pledging, school and work, I just haven't had the time (or funds) to do so. Soon things will be right and I'll get back on it. I'm truly inspired...

A "simple" gift :: Part II

One late night in class 2 weeks ago, I twitted about how I needed a sewing machine asap to catch up in class and work on some side projects. Just one of my many random thoughts lost in the abyss of the internet, right? Wrong. It's funny cause my dad always told me growing up that people would always be watching me and listening to me. The older I become, the wiser I realize my father is. A little while later I got a reply that read, "@simplyl I got you!." I didn't really think much of it.

A couple of days later, she texts me asking if I was home. "Yep!" I reply. Then she says, "Then bring your ass outside mister!"

I walk outside with my pajamas on very confused. I saw a white Hyundai and out pops my very dolled up friend Elle. She opens her trunk and dumbs this sewing machine in my hands, "There you go love! Gotta run. I have a [date]." A single tear almost dropped from my eye at the gesture. As if she hasn't already been a spectacular friend, she supplied me with the very tool I need most right now. Upon further conversation, Lala explains to me that she's had this brand new, unused sewing machine that she bestowed me with for years and she's never put it to use. She said she'd much rather it have a home with me, than continue collecting dust at her house.

Now THAT'S what you call a friend!

Thanks again Elly! I'll put it to use as soon as you find that power cord and peddle. Haha!

Encounter :: Dean & Dan Caten of Dsquared

I've had some pretty amazing adventures in the past few weeks (which partly explains my absence). Monday was a prime example!

Me and my best friend decided to play hookie from work and had an all day excursion like we always do. During our journey we stopped by Michael Levine so I could pick up some fabric for class. For those of you who don't know, Michael Levine is probably the most renowned fabric store in Los Angeles. The selection is crazy. It's seriously a designers dream in there. It's a little more expensive than the norm, but the quality is incomparable.

So, when we were walking in we noticed that there was a camera crew outside the store. We didn't really think much of it. I mean, this is L.A. and they're always filming something downtown. Right as I walked in the store I recognized a familiar face. OH SHIT! It was none other than one of the Caten Twins (I don't know which one it was cause...they're twins! LoL!), the genius identical brothers behind the Dsquared2 high-end fashion label. I gasped and froze for a second. My best friend asked what was wrong cause it was clear I was having a minor panic attack. After explaining I bolted back to my car to grab my camera. Long story short, due to filming and the numerous producers and crew members standing around, I was unable to get a picture with them. I was pissed! I live for moments like that! The only image I managed to get was the blurred one you see above that Misch took when we drove away.

I was partially to blame though. If I hadn't wasted time being starstruck and remembered my camera in the first place, I probably would have been able to get a picture and some words of encouragement. Oh well. I still cherish the memory. AND I might be lurking in the background of whatever they were filming the store. I have a hunch it was Project Runway since they just moved to L.A., but no one would tell us.

I was able to pick out some great fabric with help from my sister Kianna and the homie Dee.Nice, who I just happened to run into also in the store. Good times...

Sub-encounter: The craziest thing about spazzing out and not getting a picture with Dean & Dan Caten is the fact that I had done the very same thing the week before. Baby and I were having lunch at Cilantro in Marina Del Rey. Up pulls a Lincoln Towncar and out walks Vanessa & Angela Simmons! I was too 'struck to ask for a picture. I had several opportunities to ask too, cause they passed us while we eating lunch outside like 40 times and Baby even said to me, "I have my camera in my purse. I know you want a picture. Just ask them." She knows me so well.

What the hell is wrong with me??? I need to pull it together!
